Trevi Fountain

- Roma -

One of the most famous fountains in the world; it is the “mostra” of the Virgin Water. In the “Rome of the Popes” it was in use to erect large fountains at the end of the most important aqueducts. Inaugurated in 19 BC. it is a unique example of Roman aqueducts that has always been in operation since the time of Augustus until today. In the first half of the 1600s Gian Lorenzo Bernini designed a fountain oriented like today's with a tub in front. It is only in 1732 that the current fountain takes shape. In the middle, the statue of Oceano dominates on a chariot shaped like a shell, pulled by two winged horses, one agitated the other placid, braked by two tritons.
